A guide to information
The Freedom of Information Act 2000 provides the general right of access to information which we hold, subject to a number of exemptions, such as where the information is personal information, which is protected by the Data Protection Act 1998, or where the cost of providing the information exceeds a certain limit.
A lot of information is made available here on our website. If you cannot find the information you are seeking, you can make a request under the Freedom of Information Act by using the form in our Contact us section.

Charges for information
Information which is published on our website is available free of charge. Charges may be made for actual costs incurred in complying with your request, such as
- Photocopying
- Postage and packing
- The costs directly incurred as a result of viewing information
We charge for the supply of Fire Reports and Fire Incident Reports and, if a request is received under the Freedom of Information Act for copies of these reports, the normal charges will apply. The current charges are set out in the Special Services Charges Schedule.
We may make a charge for staff time in responding to your request for information. We will only charge if we estimate that the staff time will cost more than £450 in total. If it does we shall charge the full amount based on a calculation of £25 per hour, per person.
If a fee is chargeable, you will be given a fees notice as quickly as possible, requesting payment of the fee. The information you requested will only be provided to you once the full fee has been received. The Chief Fire Officer has the power to waive any charges.
We reserve the right to refuse to respond to a request where the staff costs exceed £450. If we decide to do this, you will be informed and be given the reasons for the decision.
