My four-year-old daughter read a book for older children about fire, and became very scared. I was at my wit's end, trying to reassure her, so I contacted the Cambridge Fire Brigade for advice. We were invited to the station to have a chat with the firemen (and a firewoman!) and see the engines. They reassured her that they could get to our house "in one Peppa" (five minutes). They even sent an expert to asses our home. Twelve years later, she still remembers how kind everyone was to her.

Congratulations on 50 years of keeping us safe. CFRS is certainly one of the most effectively managed fire services in the country. I was privileged to serve on the Fire Authority as a Cambridgeshire County Councillor and know how well councillors work with the very professional officers and staff to provide a quality service.

My mother worked for you as a control despatcher at Cambridge in the late 70s/80s, my interest in the brigade stemmed from living opposite Yaxley in the 90s, lovely memories of seeing the old Dennis RS on two tones down the road. Always admired the service and the vehicles especially since I draw them every now and then and am proud to be showcasing them at the Ramsey fire show this summer. Thanks for everyone's service who has participated in the brigade the last 50 years.
