About the Role

In this vital role you will ensure our firefighters and staff have access to the equipment, uniforms, PPE and consumables they need to protect our communities. Leading the day-to-day operation of the Service's stores function, you will be responsible for stock management, procurement, distribution and reporting, ensuring resources are available where and when they are needed.

This varied role combines operational logistics, supplier management, data analysis and people leadership. You will oversee stock control processes, drive continuous improvement, support value for money initiatives, and manage a small team to deliver an efficient, customer-focused service across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day management of the Service's stores operation, ensuring the timely ordering, receipt, storage and distribution of operational and non-operational equipment, consumables, uniforms and PPE.
  • Maintain effective stock control processes, monitoring minimum and maximum stock levels to ensure availability while minimising waste and unnecessary expenditure.
  • Manage supplier relationships and procurement activities, ensuring purchases represent value for money and support the Service's sustainability objectives.
  • Utilise the stock management system to analyse data, monitor stock movements, track serial and batch-controlled items, and produce both routine and ad hoc management reports.
  • Oversee the administration and coordination of uniform and PPE provision, ensuring employees have access to the clothing and protective equipment required to perform their roles safely and effectively.
  • Work closely with operational departments, suppliers and internal stakeholders to resolve stock issues, manage supply challenges and maintain service continuity.
  • Provide effective line management, supervision and development for the Logistics Assistant and Service Couriers, fostering a positive and high-performing team culture.
  • Support the maintenance and testing of operational equipment, ensuring records are accurately maintained and equipment remains compliant and fit for purpose.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, increase efficiency, reduce costs and enhance the overall effectiveness of the stores and logistics function.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for an organised and proactive individual who enjoys combining operational logistics, data management and team leadership in a role that directly supports frontline emergency services.

About You

We are looking for an organised and proactive professional with experience in stores, stock control or logistics environments. You will be a confident communicator with strong organisational skills, experience leading people, and the ability to manage competing priorities whilst delivering an efficient, customer-focused service that supports frontline operations.

  • The ability to prioritise workloads, manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain information clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive working relationships with a wide range of people.
  • A flexible and adaptable approach, with the ability to respond to changing service demands.
