Wholetime firefighter

We will be recruiting Wholetime Firefighters from September 2019.

Being a wholetime firefighter is more than a job – it’s a career, whether that’s climbing the management ladder, specialising in a particular area such as community safety, training or fire protection, or just being the best firefighter you can, bringing experience to your watch.

And it’s more than putting out fires and cutting people out of cars. Our firefighters inspire young minds, help the community, become role models, develop others, educate people, keep people safe, protect lives and save people and animals.

There’s more to being a firefighter than you think!

Community safety plays a large part of a firefighter's day to day work and they spend a lot of time out in the community conducting home safety checks and talking to people about fire prevention, road safety and other related issues. This requires the ability to communicate with a range of different people, especially the elderly, young adults and school children. It involves carrying out presentations and talks, visiting people's homes and talking to residents.

As a firefighter, no two days are the same and there is a great feeling of personal satisfaction to be had from helping someone in need or making a difference to people's lives by making them safer in their homes.

We are committed to achieving fairness and equality in employment and service delivery. Therefore we welcome suitably skilled applicants from all parts of the community, including women and applicants of black and minority ethnic origin, as we are currently under-represented by these groups.

Please note that Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service does not accept direct transfers from the on-call duty system to the wholetime duty system.
