We’re looking for a Training Centre Support Technician. This is your chance to apply your skills where it really matters. If you're looking for a role where you can make a real difference all the while growing your career, CFRS could be the perfect place for you.
About the Role
We are looking for a motivated and practical individual to join our Training Centre team in a diverse and hands-on role supporting the delivery of high-quality firefighter training. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key part in ensuring our training facilities, equipment and operational training activities run safely, efficiently and effectively.
Working across a variety of areas, you will provide administrative support, manage equipment and assets, coordinate materials and consumables, operate plant and machinery, and assist with the preparation and delivery of realistic fire behaviour and tactical ventilation training scenarios. No two days are the same, making this an ideal role for someone who enjoys a balance of office-based duties and practical, outdoor work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the day-to-day administration and operations of the Training Centre.
- Coordinate the ordering, receipt and management of materials, equipment and consumables.
- Maintain accurate asset records and ensure equipment inspections, testing and maintenance are completed on schedule.
- Prepare training resources and loadouts for fire behaviour demonstrations and tactical ventilation exercises.
- Manage timber and consumable supplies, including the procurement and storage of training materials.
- Load, unload and move materials safely using appropriate mechanical aids and plant equipment.
- Operate Training Centre vehicles and machinery, including the Manitou telehandler, to support training activities and site operations.
- Assist with the setup, delivery and safe operation of practical training demonstrations and scenarios.
- Carry out minor repairs, maintenance and adaptations to training facilities and equipment.
- Manage equipment testing and maintenance programmes to ensure assets remain compliant, safe and fit for purpose.
- Support post-training clean-down activities, including the maintenance of fire behaviour training units and associated equipment.
- Contribute to maintaining a safe, organised and professional training environment at all times.
This role is essential to the successful delivery of operational training and offers the opportunity to work as part of a dedicated team that helps prepare firefighters with the skills and experience needed to protect our communities.
About You
We are looking for a proactive, organised and practical individual who enjoys working in a varied role and is confident balancing administrative responsibilities with hands-on operational duties. You will be a team player with excellent communication skills, a strong focus on safety and compliance, and the ability to work independently using your initiative to support the effective delivery of firefighter training activities.
What You'll Bring:
- Educated to GCSE Grade A-C/9-4 (or equivalent) in English Language.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with a range of audiences.
- A high level of self-motivation, enthusiasm and drive to achieve positive outcomes.
- Sound IT skills, including experience using Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel.
- An understanding of the operational challenges faced by firefighters.
- A flexible approach, with the ability to travel across the county and respond to operational requirements, sometimes at short notice.
- A commitment to maintaining high standards of health, safety and professionalism.
- An understanding of, and commitment to, equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
