Firefighters trained as Dementia Friends

Dementia Friends

Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service is proud to be signed up to the national Dementia Friends campaign run by The Alzheimer’s Society.

Hundreds of members of fire service staff are Dementia Friends and have taken part in dementia awareness sessions. A handful of staff have also been trained as Dementia Friends Champions, enabling them to deliver awareness sessions both to our own staff and others in the wider community.

The sessions increase the knowledge of our staff, enabling them to be better equipped with how to engage with a member of the public who may have dementia.

As part of our Service’s pledge to the campaign, our staff have also attended Dementia Cafés, run charity events to raise funds and many have made personal pledges to help something living with dementia.
